ECLIPSE, 2017
Video, 11 minutes, 56 seconds, gold-plated bronze
Curated by Stephen Nowlin
Williamson Gallery, Art Center College of Design
Sound by Sussan Deyhim, editing by Marc Breslin.
The installation is an 11-minute video with textual narration in three parts and was created for an exhibition of the Great American Eclipse of 2017 at the Williamson Gallery. In the first section, Albuquerque’s approach to the subject matter is symbolic through writing embedded in the video image of the sea of her childhood experiences of light and darkness growing up in North Africa. Part two and three are her observations of natural phenomena. Albuquerque filmed the video on the Mediterranean shores in Greece and at Mt Wilson Observatory.
