CELESTIAL SOURCE, 1992

Grand Hope Park, Los Angeles

Architect: Lawrence Halprin

For Celestial Source, Albuquerque created a sculptural fountain integrated into Lawrence Halprin’s design for Grand Hope Park in downtown Los Angeles. A large gilded circular form serves as the focal point of the work, set within a dark stone wall from which water flows into a series of shallow basins below. Stepped terraces surround the fountain, while geometric platforms extend across the surface of the water, creating a carefully ordered landscape of reflection, light, and movement. Through the relationship of water, geometry, and the luminous gold disk, Celestial Source explores the connection between natural forces and the built environment, establishing a contemplative center within the urban setting of the park.
