ALBION, 2016
Obsidian, honey, glass, steel, 25 1/2 x 24 1/2 x 24 1/2 inches; pedestal 27 1/2 x 24 x 24 inches.
An important work in Albuquerque’s “Rock Suites”, Albion differs from her rock and pigment series. Here, she utilizes “live” material, honey, to embody light, and placing an obsidian rock in a sea of honey to evoke a conversation about materials in an unprecedented way for the artist. The title Albion refers to the strength of the black obsidian within this viscous material.
